FORGOTTEN BANDS : FELINE GROOVE
Back in the late 1980s FELINE GROOVE made a small ripple in
old London Town.
They caught my eye due to their sassy early Aerosmith/Hanoi
Rocks sound and reminded me very much of THE GUNSLINGERS who seemed to have
disappeared without trace by 1989.
Feline Groove
FELINE GROOVE were almost the house band at the Friday night
rock club at London’s Astoria. They seemed to be on once a month and I caught
them at a few other venues as well.
The crowds never went that mad in those days. It was the
time of posers and trying to be cool people used to do everything they could to
show they weren’t watching the band, even if they were toe tapping quietly.
I used to love rocking out to FELINE GROOVE though (I was
more inclined to try and be un-cool) and the fact that I can remember some of
their songs 20 years later, despite not having a record by them shows how good
they were.
I think they release a cassette (as you did in them heady
days) and I had that, but most of the songs were committed to memory.
The best thing about FELINE GROOVE was their charismatic
spinning and dancing lead singer Charly, though he was backed up by some dudes
who soft shoe shuffled across the stage, smoking in a way that would have made
James Dean proud.
FELINE GROOVE disappeared as fast as they arrived, but this
rocker has never forgotten them.
Fortunately Charly uploaded some filmed footage from London’s
Hippodrome a couple of years ago so there is a taster of what a FELINE GROOVE
night was like. Here’s a couple of songs :
